FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22 - SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2024
GEORGETOWN DAY SCHOOL | WASHINGTON, DC
ABOUT
On November 22-23, 2024, 8th-12th grade students, parents, and school faculty, staff, and administrators will gather in Washington, DC for the 8th Annual GDS Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent. During this summit, participants will explore the complexity of sexual assault and consent. Guided by experts in the field, participants learn how to examine current laws, policies, and programs established to support survivors, advocate for rights, and prevent sexual assault. Participants will then apply this knowledge to their own school and communities where they can design initiatives and prompt culture change.

The Georgetown Day School Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent is organized and planned by students who are passionate about these issues. While faculty members do provide assistance, students are the ones who ultimately connect with the presenters, manage outreach, and help make sure that the event runs smoothly.
2024 KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Maggie Nichols
Maggie was born in Little Canada, MN, in 1997 and fell in love with gymnastics at the age of 3. She had always dreamed of representing her country and quickly rose in the ranks of USA gymnastics, making the US National Team when she was 14. She traveled the world helping Team USA win international medals and was considered a top contender for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Maggie was the first of many to come forward and report abuse from a Team USA trainer and was named “Athlete A” for most of the investigation and lawsuit until she came forward publicly in 2018 and shared her experience alongside other survivors. Maggie continues to hold a unique and influential position regarding the current reconfiguration and assessment of USA Gymnastics. Netflix aired a documentary featuring Maggie’s story in June 2020, bringing additional light and attention to the tragedy in hopes of helping others. Since then, she has established The Maggie Nichols Foundation, an organization based on the mission to offer assistance to charities that help heal victims and survivors of all types of abuse.
In 2016, Maggie left the elite gymnastics world and went on to the University of Oklahoma to compete in the NCAA. She stamped her legacy by becoming one of the most decorated NCAA gymnasts of all time and has been dubbed “the Michael Jordan of College Gymnastics."
Outside of sports, Maggie is passionate about sharing her story, empowering athletes and non-athletes alike, and bringing a positive light to those around her.
Most recently, she released her memoir, Unstoppable!, chronicling her journey from World Champion to Athlete A to 8-time NCAA National Champion and beyond.
