GDS Consent Summit

Georgetown Day School

GEORGETOWN DAY SCHOOL | WASHINGTON, DC

 ABOUT

On November 17-18, 2023, over 400 8th-12th grade students, parents, and school faculty, staff, and administrators gathered in Washington, DC for the 8th Annual GDS Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent. During this summit, participants explored the complexity of sexual assault and consent. Guided by experts in the field, participants learned how to examine current laws, policies, and programs established to support survivors, advocate for rights, and prevent sexual assault. Participants now will apply this knowledge to their own school and communities where they can design initiatives and prompt culture change.

The Georgetown Day School Summit on Sexual Assault and Consent is organized and planned by students who are passionate about these issues. While faculty members do provide assistance, students are the ones who ultimately connect with the presenters, manage outreach, and help make sure that the event runs smoothly.

2023 KEYNOTE SPEAKER

GDS Consent Summit Keynote Speaker Alicia Weigel

Alicia Roth Weigel is a Forbes and New York Times published change agent, working to improve the political and social landscape for marginalized populations in the South and around the world. As a partner for the Pride Fund, Alicia raises and invests capital to grow LGBTQIA-led companies. As a Human Rights Commissioner for the City of Austin, she has contributed to legislation to reduce sexual assault and human trafficking, mandate paid sick leave and abortion funding, and target other social determinants of health. Most notably, Alicia continually advocates for the rights of intersex people like her, for which she was awarded the Ceci Gratias Guardian Award by the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce in 2019. Her work is featured in the 2023 film Every Body directed by Julie Cohen and produced by Focus Features. Her book, Inverse Cowgirl, is published by Harper Collins and was released in September 2023. In this book, Alicia boldly speaks out about working as a change agent in a state that actively attempts to pass legislation that would erase her existence, explores how we can reclaim bodily autonomy, and encourages us to amplify our voices to be heard.

We are honored to have Alicia as our keynote speaker for the Summit this year and cannot wait for you to hear her story.
